“I am actually doing a film with him! Isn’t it every actor’s dream to work with him? We met recently and I heard about my role. It is an interesting and a powerful role,” quoted Govinda.

Despite being a huge hit in India, Pakistan singer Atif Aslam has to overcome a number of visa issues each time the artist has to fly to the country for a song recording.

Atif’s visa problem has forced Bollywood composer, Pritam Chakraborty, to rush to Lahore to record a song with the singer for the upcoming film ‘Kismat Connection’.

‘I need to urgently record a song with Atif for Aziz Mirza’s ‘Kismat Connection’, but he is suddenly having problems with his visa. So he can’t come to Mumbai, I’m flying down to Lahore to record the song with him,’ Pritam, who composed music for films like ‘Life In a Metro’, told reporters.

Pritam, who is known for using Pakistani voices brought on Atif in his latest project after the singer delivered a super hit number, ‘O jaan-e-jaana’ (Race) that went on to break all records. The composer, who has roped in another Pak singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for Mani Shankar’s ‘Mukhbiir’, now says that if the problem persists, he will bring in some Indian singer to record the promotional number for Mani Shankar’s ‘Mukhbiir’.

Despite all the talk of amity, solidarity and free-flowing cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, artists from the neighbouring country seem to be finding it hard to obtain permission to come to Mumbai to record songs.

Talking to reporters, Bhatt said, “If singers from across the border are finding it difficult to come here (Mumbai), then let me tell you, our prime minister had personally assured me that the entertainment industry is free to move back and forth and that the bureaucracy of neither side would be allowed to obstruct us.”

Loud and sustained applause rang out in a packed downtown cinema house on Monday night at the end of Pakistan’s first-ever film featured in a major international festival film.

Mehreen Jabbar’s poignant “Ramchand Pakistani” drew appreciative comments from knowledgeable New York movie-goers and critics. It is among 121 feature films and 79 short films representing 41 different countries being screened in the Tribeca Film Festival.

The movie, starring Indian actress Nandita Das, is a real-life story of an eight-year-old Pakistani Hindu boy who strays across the Indo-Pakistan border and is captured by Indian police. His father, who goes looking for him, is also arrested and the two spend years in jail after being labelled as spies.

Mehreen’s father Javed Jabbar wrote the story of the film, which he produced.

Speaking to a battery of print and electronic media reporters at the film’s premier, Javed Jabbar said at this historic moment as a Pakistani he felt a “mixture of humility and pride.” And an elated Mehreen, the director, said, “It’s a great feeling…I’m delighted.”

Javed Jabbar went on to say that through “Ramchand Pakistani”, he hopes to bring Pakistan and India closer by showcasing the emotional turmoil that ordinary people on both sides of the border experience because of the strained political relations.

Nandita Das plays Champa, the woman whose eight-year-old son Ramchand and husband disappear from their village near Nagarparkar, located along the border with India.

The film stars Syed Fazal Hussain in the title role. Pakistani actors in the cast include Rashid Farooqi, Noman Ijaz, Maria Wasti, Shahood Alvi, Tipu, Adarsh Ayaz and Saleem Mairaj.

The film was shot in Nagarparkar and Islamkot, close to the Indian border. The photography is simply stunning.
