In this Pep.ph article, Juday (Judy Ann Santos) expresses her dismay at how the masses accepted her infomercial discussing Meralco’s systems loss. And I quote:

The Meralco infomercial shows the multi-awarded actress explaining the controversial systems loss issue, defending the power company against allegations of overcharging by passing unnecessary charges to the consumers to cover the firm’s own expenses. Many people reacted violently and in the process vented their ire on Juday. Last June 3, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) made a call asking the public to boycott Juday’s film and TV projects as a show of contempt.

My reaction to this is a big WHAT THE HELL! Isn’t this like people beating up a television opera supervillain when they see them in the malls shopping like any normal person? Like example, Cherry Gil’s Lavinia really made waves with her “You’re nothing but a second rate trying hard copycat” attacks to Sharon’s Dorina and the public hated her in the wake of the Movie “Bituing Walang Ningning”. Isn’t hating Judy Ann for her Meralco Infomercial akin to that?

Stabbing the Messenger

She was hired to promote Meralco’s efforts and strengths, but the trouble is, Meralco is a company that’s directly involved in the day-to-day hardships of Filipinos now. While it cannot be avoided, people will blame the messenger. Juday being the masses’ darling should have been effective, but instead it led to this threat of bringing her down. This is just preposterous, IMHO.
